An Innovative "Insurance Program"

In the event that a sheet fails to shed at the first doctor position in a center press application, the dual doctor with pass-through allows the sheet to be shed at the second doctor blade where it is then directed into the broke pit. When installed in both the center and top presses, the dual doctor with pass-through provides the additional benefit of preventing damage to felts and allows for easier cleaning at wash-ups. The dual doctor with pass-through consists of a set of journals supporting the first doctor back. The second doctor is attached to the first doctor's journals by swing arms. This leaves an opening, or "pass-through", between the holders so that the sheet can be directed between the doctor backs down into the broke pit. The angle for each doctor can be individually set and controlled.

 

In the Second Position - A DST Holder

The second position of the Dual Doctor with Pass-Through is occupied by Kadant Web Systems' DST blade holder. The DST is a high-performance holder which provides precise blade-to-roll fit from pneumatic pressure control through a regulating panel. During operation, pneumatic pressure is applied to the loading tube, which actuates the fingers and transfers pressure to the blade tip. With the inherent flexibility of the top plate, supported by separate loading fingers, the loading pressure is distributed evenly across the roll face through the doctor blade, which conforms exactly with the roll surface. This results in improved doctoring and reduced blade wear. The Dual Doctor with Pass-Through also integrates a shower between the holders, ensuring a clean roll surface. The design is compact and can be used anywhere the machine would accept a double doctor.
